Just about every day is a GREAT day! But some days, ---- some days, are EVEN BETTER! Still in the marina as we are leaving a harbor seal bids us goodbye. Next stop is some old pilings to fish for our bait as a Bald Eagle hangs out with us on a nearby piling. Then we head to the fishing grounds near the south tip of Whidbey Island and a pair of large Gray Whales escort us for the first couple hours of fishing as we drift on calm waters and warm temperatures. Later a group of Dall's porpoises swings by to say hello.

OH- and we landed 4 Quill Back Rock Fish (protected so we quickly returned them to the sea) and 3 Ling Cod. One was too small and had to go back, one was well above minimum legal size and the other was the largest Ling Cod anyone can keep in Puget Sound. We started with the yard stick so if he was too big we could get him back in the water quickly. He looked extremely close and likely legal. So we hoisted him on the table to get an exact measurement. Having to check his tail and lip at least 3 times, HE"S OURS! legal by an 1/8 of an inch, just under the top limit of 36 inches.

LORRIE WITH A SUPER NICE LINGCOD ON A BEAUTIFUL DAY

Happy Birthday Bethany!

Happy Birthday Bethany!

rubydcharters

So Sean takes Bethany on a charter fishing trip for her birthday. Pretty bold Sean! - but he said Bethany was down for the trip. Lings are tough this year but by 9 Am Bethany lands a very nice Lingcod. Then we grind it out for our next Ling. The limit is one per person. Then Bethany hooks a fish; I am thinking here is our limit but darn, I wish Sean hooked the final Ling. Turns out Bethany hooked a Quill-Back rock fish. Being protected he had to go right back in the water.

Then BOOM, Sean has a fish on-- this fish did NOT want to come in, pulling line away from Sean left and right. Sean tires the big Ling and we bring him in the boat- just a tad bigger than Bethany's.

So GREAT day with two extremely nice people

This is Barb's SECOND Ling so I don't understand why Dave is in all these photos

Luke has done a ton of fresh water fishing and from the looks here he is not too shabby in the salt water either!  A beautiful 35 inch Lingcod.  The legal limit is 26 to 36 inches making Luke's fish about as big as you can legally keep.

Dan and Jordan from Chicago. Dan is the starting center on the
University of Wisconsin. As big Dan was bringing in the this Lingcod
I wasn't sure whether to bet on Dan or the fish. A couple of times
the Ling peeled out line on Dan but Dan did the right thing, let the
fish run and then worked him in. Nice fish DAN!

Lingcod Limit for Jo and Darren - I AM NOT SURE HOW GENUINE DARREN'S SMILE IS SINCE JO GOT THIS NICE LING AND SOME ROCK FISH, SO FAR DARREN WAS NOT SO LUCKY,

May 1st Ling Cod opened in Puget Sound. This was great fun to catch, but too big to keep. His friend was able to catch one small enough to bring home! :)

Father son, Olin and Nickolas (Nico) from Atlanta, GA` - Pops here on business and brings his son on spring break - Good job dad as maybe next year he will have other plans - really nice folks.

Virginia Nice King

Virginia Nice King - She lost a couple but well made up for it with a long fight to pull this Chinook to the boat. Catch and Release so a quick photo and back in the water. A long fight but she never asked for help, although I think the King Salmon asked for a little relief!

Winter Chinook December

Winter Chinook December 17th - All Orthopedic Doctors from the University of Washington system. It took them two years to coordinate their schedules to get out fishing. Not only can they fix your torn ACL they also do a pretty good job fishing

December 18th

December 18th Beautiful morning on Puget Sound - Great couple, both engineers at Boeing. Good fishing action all morning but mostly undersized so they only went home with one keeper.

Lingcod Maxima - Dad John and son Justin out on a gorgeous day on Puget Sound. John gets his limit of one and then another Ling is on, Justin is reeling him in but sometimes the Ling was taking more line than Justin was pulling in. Finally at the boat ready to net; the big fish sees the net and takes off --- zeeeeeeeee --- line peeling out, he must have taking another 100 feet. Now a bit tired, thanks to Justin we bring him in. The slot limit for keepers is 26 to 36 inches. This guy is 42 inches. So father and son go home with one great fish and the memory of landing a giant!
